The captivating Rock Garden in Chandigarh is a truly redefined art and craft masterpiece. A massive open-air and state-of-the-art park space spreads out like a maze of installations made out of urban and industrial recycled waste, glass bottles bangles, tiles, ceramic pots, sinks, and wires has been designed and executed by Nek Chand. Colorful eye-catching structures, remarkable waterfalls, massive swings, hilarious mirrors can be seen at every corner. It is located between the famous Sukhna Lake and the Capitol Building.

Le Corbusier Center

The Old Architects’ Office now titled as Le Corbusier Centre is one of the initial buildings structured in Chandigarh. Le Corbusier and his team designed the general layout of the dream city in this building and is of immense historic value to Chandigarh. The center displays, preserves and interprets the works and life of the famous French Architect.

Capitol Complex

The Capital complex, Sector 1, Chandigarh, recently declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site comprises of three architectural masterpieces, the Secretariat, the High Court and the Legislative Assembly of Punjab and Haryana, divided by large piazzas. French Architect Le Corbusier designed the Capitol to dominate the city. In the heart of the Capital Complex and with the Shivalik Hills in the background stands a gigantic metallic sculpture of The Open Hand, the official emblem of Chandigarh.

Rose Garden

Also known as Zakir Hussain Rose Garden is located in Sector 16 of Chandigarh and exhibits around 825 varieties of flowers and 32,500 varieties of trees and medicinal shrubs. Spread over 30 acres, it is claimed to be the largest rose garden in Asia and serves as a perfect place to peacefully stroll and relax for nature lovers. The presence of misty mountains in the background and a magnificent fountain that is aglow with colorful lights in the evening makes it one of the favorite places to visit.

Sukhna Lake

Declared as a “Reserved National Wetland” and nestled at the foot of the majestic Shivalik range, the man-made lake is surrounded by lush greenery stretching for a distance of 3kms. It’s a perfect location for morning joggers and walkers and a delight for artists and photographers who love to capture the mesmerizing view. The Sukhna lake has the longest channel for rowing and yachting in Asia.

The Saragarhi Memorial Gurudwara

The Saragarhi Memorial Gurudwara The Saragarhi Memorial Gurudwara was constructed to honour the 21 Sikh soldiers who belonged to the 36th Sikh Regiment. The soldiers died while defending the Fort Saragarhi on 12th September 1897 in Wazirstan. It was constructed by the Army Authorities. The Gurudwara was inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, Sir Charles Pevz in 1904. Every year, on 12th September, two separate meetings are held here, a religious assemblage in the morning and a reunion of ex-servicemen in the evening.

The Barki Memorial

The Barki Memorial was constructed in 1969 to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers of the 7 Infantry Division who made the Supreme sacrifice on the battle field in 1965 and paved the way for the fall of Barki a town situated at a distance of 15 miles South East of Lahore. The foundation stone of this memorial was laid by Lt Gen Harbakhsh Singh VC on September 11,1969 and unveiling ceremony was performed by Lt Gen HK Sibal MVC. The memorial which now forms a part of Saragarhi Complex has a pillar in the centre, a Patten tank and a Barki mile stone on the south and a water fountain on the North The pillar is 27 feet high and is built of red and white sand stone and gneise. The mouldings and relief carvings are in the classical Indian architectural style. The fountain denotes symbolically that the memory of those who laid down their lives will for ever remain green and lush by an abundant spray of water.
